The Importance of Body Composition and

Metabolism in Health & Fitness

MJ Yao, MD, PhD

Life Measurement, Inc. - Concord, CA, USA.

Overview

Body Composition is one of two key components used in the development of successful exercise and nutrition programs. By accurately analyzing Body Composition, the proper balance of Fat to Fat-Free Mass can be established, rather than focusing on static weight alone. A Metabolism assessment that includes Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and Total Energy Expenditure (TEE) is another essential component, as It offers information on each person’s unique “Metabolic Engine,” or caloric intake versus energy used. This provides Personal Trainers and Fitness Professionals with the vital information necessary for establishing sensible fitness and nutrition goals for their clients, and assures their clients achieve their goals safely and effectively.

Powerful Nutritional and Exercise Tools

Once each client's unique Body Composition and Metabolism information is obtained, daily activity levels can be monitored and caloric needs determined, resulting in highly targeted and effective exercise and nutrition programs.

Excellent for Tracking Progress

Frequent and accurate follow-up assessments of Body Composition and Metabolism are essential for determining the success of any exercise and nutrition program. The information these assessments provide also offers important feedback for fine-tuning programs along the way.

Body Composition and Metabolism Use

in Health & Fitness Programs

Personal trainers and fitness professionals can integrate Body Composition and Metabolism assessments into their client's exercise and nutrition programs by:

Establishing each patient's Weight Goals and addressing both lean weight minimums and fat weight maximums.

And then using this information to develop Individual Exercise and Nutrition Programs for each client, consisting of:

1) A Fitness Assessment. This is based on an initial BOD POD® Test, which provides detailed information on Body Composition and Metabolism, including Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and Total Energy Expenditure (TEE) based on each client's activity level.

2) Establishment of each client's Daily Caloric Needs.

3) One-on-One Consultations with each client, addressing their unique needs and goals for diet and exercise.

4) Development of personalized Dietary Plans, which include Custom-created Nutritional Binders for each patient, offering meal-planning tips, restaurant order suggestions, shopping lists, recipes, fast food recommendations, and a breakdown of dietary needs for protein, carbohydrates, and fats.

5) Exercise Regimens, prescribed by a Certified Personal Trainer, providing strength and conditioning recommendations.  Clients are provided with all the tools necessary to help them succeed in achieving their exercise and nutrition goals.  Follow-up testing in the BOD POD insures accurate feedback on each client's progress.  Some of the facilities currently using the BOD POD in their Health & Fitness programs include:

• Core Fitness • Scottsdale AZ

• East Bank Club • Proper Form

• Fuel Fitness • The Omni Club

• Austin FIT • Beverly Hills Country Club

• Bosse Sport • Golds Gym [2 locations]
